Wine Tasting in Margaret River - Western Australia

submitted on 25 May 2022 by margaret-river-wine-tours.com.au
Margaret River in beautiful Australia has many awesome activities to lose yourself in. None is more memorable than wine tasting! This area is rich in history and culture, and some of the best lands to grow not only grapes but all kinds of flora and fauna. Here is a short introduction to some of the amazing wineries in the region that you can visit on a Margaret River, Busselton or Dunsborough wine tour.

Xanadu Wines Margaret River
The word xanadu is a metaphor for opulence or an idyllic place. It is depicted in poems, literature, and movies. I am reminded of the 1980 classic film, Xanadu with Dame Olivia Newton-John. Lovers of literature will remember Xanadu as Samuel Coleridge's mysterious and exotic city; the home of Kubla Khan.

While dining and experiencing their incredible wines here, you may get an idea of the utopia that this namesake inspires. You are invited to book some time at Xanadu and explore how the wines are made and how the vines are grown. Enjoy a glass of their Stevens Road label. This is very limited in a single vineyard from only the best rows on the best blocks on the property. Learn about the Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon which is one of the most awarded wines originating from the Margaret River Region. This wine offers a core of inky berry fruits such as boysenberry, black currants, and Satsuma plums. You may prefer the DJL Chardonnay. This label refers to Dr. John Lagan who was the founder and inspiration behind this vineyard. The Chardonnay is a vibrant fruit-driven wine with white-fleshed stone fruits. It also includes zesty citrus with distinct minerality and crisp acidity.

With careful consideration being given to the lands, you will taste the love of the region through the foods and the wines that you will enjoy on your wine tour.

Passel Estate Margaret River
Taste amazing wines on your wine tour at a place of provenance, discovery, and sanctuary in Passel Estate. Provenance represents the physical location of this family-owned estate. Discovery hints at the small quantities produced and the unique Tasting Room experience that awaits you.

Sanctuary refers to the natural bushland reserve on the property. This houses some of the older peppermint trees of the region as well as jarrah, marri, and grass trees. The term passel (or family) refers to the endangered Western Ringtail Possums that were relocated to the property after the 2011 bushfires of Margaret River. The owners continue to provide sanctuary to endangered native species within the estate to this day.

The owners Wendy and Barry Stimpson consider the Margaret River Region the closest thing to paradise. Come experience that paradise and sip on incredible wines like the Passel Estate Sauvignon Blanc. This combines white blossoms, lychee, and grapefruit with underlining aromas of sea spray and dried chopped thyme. Mineral infused natural acidity and subtle French oak finishes this lovely wine off.

Dive into the 2017 Passel Estate Shiraz. This wine offers flavors of plum skin, white pepper, and citrus blossoms. Blackberries, bruised apricots, and wet slate complete this amazing wine.

You can also sip on the 2017 Passel Estate Cabernet Sauvignon on a wine tour. This is a medium to full-bodied wine with fine-grained tannin that is full of intense flavors of red and blueberries.

Consider the celebrated Passel Estate Chardonnay. This wine boasts flavors of freshly cut peaches, jasmine, brioche, and roasted nuts. This is all balanced by fine white fruit tannin and succulent natural acidity.

Hamelin Bay Wines
From the wyvern emblazoned on the family crest to the ancestral ties to this ancient land, the picturesque location of this vineyard is sure to dazzle all of your senses! Located in the southwest area of Western Australia, this beautiful area is surrounded by the ocean and receives the benefit of a wonderful maritime climate. These conditions yield fantastic grapes for wine, incredible local food, and pristine beaches, making this a favorite amongst tourists.

Visit their incredible location on a wine tour and taste excellent wines like the 2020 Chardonnay. This fresh and elegant wine is refreshing, and seductive with creamy notes on the palate. This wine has also won the gold medal with the Perth Royal Wine Awards and received 91 points with Winestate Magazine.

Also, enjoy a glass of 2020 Hamelin Bay Reserve Shiraz. This particular wine was awarded 95 points in the Margaret River Wine Show. It is a potent mix of dark fruit, and spices with a subtle hint of coconut and vanilla.

2020 Hamelin Bay Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolute show stealer! This wine won gold medals in the 2021 Adelaide Royal Wine Show as well as been awarded 95 points with Wine Showcase Magazine. This wine mixes aromas of black currant and mulberry with underlying vanilla, oak, and a faint dash of herbs.

All of these wines can be enjoyed in the extravagant Cellar Door featuring a magnificent granite entry that leads to a contemporary space overlooking alfresco decks and lawns. This atmosphere will lull you into a relaxed and peaceful mood with the great wines and wonderful setting!

Flametree Margaret River
Flametree Winery has a special location. It is situated at the gateway to the Margaret River Wine Region in the beachside town of Dunsborough. This includes the picturesque shores of Geographe Bay. Flametree employs a relaxed and informative wine tasting experience. They also have one of the most stunning Cellar Doors of the region. It is a beach-house style location that houses not only a relaxing deck and beautiful gardens but also an incredible art exhibition.

Taste their high-quality wines on the deck with an open fire place and enjoy the beautiful gardens any time of the year. Flametree Wines has a vision of producing brilliant Australian wines by using fruits of exceptional quality from throughout the Margaret River Region. This allows hand-crafted quality with unique flavor, structure, and depth.

While taking in the scenery on the deck, try a glass of the 2021 Flametree Embers Chardonnay. With this vintage, you get nectarine, pear, and melon on the nose. The palate offers full-flavored ripe fruits and butterscotch notes.

Also, try the 2021 Flametree Sauvignon Blanc Semillon which is brilliant. This fresh and fragrant wine contains lychee notes along with white nectarine bursting with fruit flavors on the palate.

You can also not go wrong with the Flametree Sparkling Brut. This incredible wine boasts Chardonnay aromatics and stone fruit and citrus on the nose. You will delight in the nectarine, lime, lemon, and subtle cherry fruits due to the slight addition of Pinot Noir grapes.

Come check out Flametree Wines on a Dunsborough wine tour and while you sip delicious wines, make sure to take part in a painting workshop as you visit. Stretch your artistic muscles while tasting exquisite wines!

Aravina Estate
Being fairly new, Aravina Estate has quickly proved itself a major player in the region. The property was established in 1986 under the original name of Amberley Estates. They are located on Thornton Road, Yallingup in the northern corner of the premium wine growing region of Margaret River. Many people visit Aravina on Dunsborough wine tours.

In this winery, you will get a picturesque setting of expansive vineyards, sprawled across rolling hills, natural bushland, and very well-manicured gardens. Aravina Estate has a passion for winemaking, as well as artistic and architectural design. Aside from the excellent food and stunning wines, you can also experience their Taphouse, Surf Gallery, and sports bar as part of the many attractions available.

Aravina Estate consists of 180 acres and the vines include Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Shiraz as their main grapes.

Many excellent wines are produced here. One of the most popular is the 2020 Wildwood Ridge Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. This seductive wine gives off aromas of perfumed currants, boysenberries, dried bay, and subtle oak nuances. On the palate enjoy plush and powerful fruit flavors with fine acid and firm and resolved tannins.

Another favorite is the 2021 Wildwood Ridge Reserve Chardonnay. This is 100% Chardonnay grapes with pale straw and lime colors. On the nose, it has citrus blossom and nectarine flesh, as well as a slight sulfide edge and subtle oak aromas. The flavor brings bright and fleshy citrus, yellow peach, and lime. There is a hint of oak along with warmed pistachio and subtle spice as well. This wine is a knockout!

With Aravina Estate, you can relax in the wonderful setting as well as get your sports fix satisfied along with a host of other activities readily available to you.

Wine tasting in the Margaret River Region and Dunsborough is, for many a once in a lifetime experience and there is much more to see and do than can be done in a short visit. Make sure you get your visit and Dunsborough wine tour booked soon and make it a long leisurely experience!
