What is Paphos Like for a Holiday?

submitted on 10 November 2020 by paphosgolfvilla.com
After a long and challenging year for many of us, we are all keen to plan our next holiday. With travel restrictions in place throughout the world, the options have become more limited when booking our next trip. Today I'm going to share with you one of my favourite destinations in Cyprus, which is the coastal city of Paphos. It's one of the best options for a holiday in Europe at the moment and is the perfect escape at any time of the year.

How safe is Cyprus to visit at the moment?
While nowhere can be guaranteed to be completely safe and virus-free, Cyprus is relatively safe in comparison to other European destinations this year. The country has been able to avoid huge numbers of COVID-19, especially when compared with many other tourist destinations in the region.

Thanks to a quick lockdown and flight ban during the peak of the virus in March, they have managed to keep cases low. Some have even said that Cyprus could be the safest country to visit in Europe during the Coronavirus crisis.

Of course, you should keep up with current information and news before booking a trip to Paphos, and check your local recommendations for travel as these are constantly changing.

The perfect year-round destination
Paphos is the ideal choice for those looking for some winter sun, and the climate in Cyprus is one of the most stable in the world year-round. The average annual temperature is 24 °C, and the country experiences warm winters. There are very few rainy days throughout the year, and the summer is hot and dry in Paphos, making it perfect for days at the beach. When much of central and northern Europe is cooling down in autumn/winter Paphos can still enjoy average temperatures of 17 °C (Paphos Golf Villa).

Incredible Beaches
Cyprus is home to some incredible beaches, and one of the must-visit beaches in Paphos is Aphrodite's Rock. It's known as the birthplace of the Greek goddess, where legend has it she rose from the sea around the rock. At any of the beaches in Cyprus, the water is crystal clear, and the beaches are pristinely clean. Whenever you choose to visit, make sure you factor in a couple of days to enjoy the beaches in Paphos.

Must-See Attractions in Paphos
As well as beautiful beaches, there are many must-see cultural and historical sites and attractions in the area. Don't miss Kato Paphos Archaeology Park, which features structures dating back to the Romans and even the prehistoric era. St Paul's Pillar is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in Cyprus and is a fascinating historical site to visit.

No trip to Cyprus is complete without enjoying the local cuisine, so we recommend that you sit down to enjoy a Meze, which in Cyprus is a big meal that's often enjoyed as part of a social event or celebration. You'll enjoy endless plates of local specialities suitable for both vegetarians and meat-eaters. Finally, don't miss the Medieval Castle of Paphos, which guards the mouth of the harbour and has a fascinating history.

Paphos is the perfect destination year-round and has some wonderful resorts and hotels to choose from for your next stay. With great connections from around Europe, it's easy to enjoy a quick break away in the sun in Cyprus.
